Peleas de perros y razas potencialmente peligrosas en la legislación mexicana
Una revisión desde la criminología verde

The study of environmental harms and crimes has figured in recent years in contemporary criminological research. However, despite this, animal mistreatment is a topic that has been little explored because it is not considered relevant in comparison with the study of other antisocial behaviors. The present research reviews state and federal legislation regarding dog fighting, as well as the regulation and/or prohibition of certain breeds considered potentially dangerous. It was found that the legal frameworks have an anthropocentric vision by focusing on sanctioning the activity without looking after the animal welfare. Although animal legislation has made great progress in sanctioning cruelty to animals, the State is lax in criminal and administrative sanctions, and there are no measures, in addition to the legal ones, to dissuade the commission of animal cruelty and contribute to eliminate the stigmatization of certain dog breeds that are considered dangerous.
